Formerly known as Excel Micro System Sdn. Bhd., it was founded on July 31, 2000. Initially, the company focused on supplying and maintaining wafer production tools for the semiconductor industry, expanding to equipment sales and maintenance for laboratories. Capitalizing on their expertise in clean environments, EMS gradually diversified into clean environment design and provision, which became a substantial part of their revenue stream.

In April 2007, the company shifted its focus to design services and rebranded as EMS Design and Consultation Sdn. Bhd. Between 2007 and 2018, they expanded their capabilities to include industries of semiconductor, electronic and electrical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, hospitals and healthcare, food and beverages, research and development (R&D) laboratories as well as commercial buildings; undertaking notable projects for international clients. However, in mid 2018, a corporate restructuring exercise occurred that limited EMS’s activities.

In 2019, EMS brought in new talent to focus on providing commissioning authority and sustainability engagement services.
